in the next two debates. and i think team obama is probably looking at that right now and saying okay, we have to step into this debate. we can't stand back and i would differ with you, rachel about the moderator point in this debate. i actually like this kind of debate because the moderator is not a factor. he leaves it up to the debaters to make it a debate. mitt romney's team knew that and mitt romney came into this debate determined to make it a debate. no one brought up green jobs. the moderator didn't bring up green jobs. mitt romney did to use it as a tool against the president. the president has to realize that his side and he is under the same obligation to drive the debate from his side himself. the moderator is not going to drive this debate. >> that's exactly right. that's sort of the point that i was trying to make about how the different approaches of romney and obama played very differently with this sort of a format and that romney just rolled over the format and made it about everything he wanted it to be. everything on domestic policy on which he is the weakest was just avoid

it indirectly. and romney's also changed -- i'm sorry. obama has changed his tune on the promise for the future. the new plan, he said, starting august 8th in colorado and repeated is he won't raise your taxes next year. so after 2013 there is no promise from obama for any american on any tax protection. he's open to raising taxes on anyone and everyone. and he's going to have to because even with his tax increases on the higher income people, he runs a $6.7 trillion debt over the next decade. and that buffett rule tax raises less than 1% of the debt he's running up. he's got to go straight at the heart of the middle class to pay for his bigger government. >> i think it's very interesting. i still have not heard from mr. norquist whether any tax increases should be necessary to deal with the budget deficit and the budget deficit we face as a country. are we going to try to do this all through spending cuts? and if so, how in the world do we do it without eviscerating medicare, medicaid, social security, and military spending? >> well, very clearly as you know, the republicans actually have a pl

the next four years look like if president obama is re-elected. that's what the undecided voter in ohio looks for. what happens over the next four years? he laid it out, laid out the case, again, not just what's wrong, but what can be right, why we can't afford another four years of the past four years and why he's better going forward. he got the chance outside of the media filter to say what his plan's all about. it's easy for president obama and the democrats to run 30-second tv ads saying, you know, this is the romney plan, but it's inaccurate. he had the chance to say, no, that's not my plan, but the plan you want to run against. this is what i want to do, create jobs and economic growth. neil: there was cosmetic things i noticed, always looking at the president. the reason i remember that is because it's unusual, when you attack someone, i noticed in debates, you don't look at the guy you're talking to. in presidential debates, carter was not looking at ford, and ford not looking back at carter very much. is this -- guys you're in the same room. 30 minute power outage, and the two
